Project Goals

The site was originally built with Drupal and the platform’s limitations eventually led to complications for the client when performing maintenance, adding new content or features, and ultimately negatively impacted server performance, resulting in the migration to WordPress and a new hosting platform.

The original data (~14,000 articles, business directory, coupons, and happy hours directory) was migrated from Drupal to WordPress and manipulated to better match the new structure. The new structure added custom post types to help manage such a large library of content, added the ability to sell event tickets, as well as new methods of cross-promotion between the magazine, affiliate retailers, journalists, and advertisers.

Project Results

Building upon existing design elements, the site design was updated to better match current online publication trends and incorporated into a new, more functional custom WordPress theme that improved the visitor and content creator experience site-wide.

The new site also features e-commerce functionality allowing the magazine to sell back issues, branded merchandise, and affiliate products. The migration also added a new ad server that is easier to manage and provided more useful analytics data for the magazine and advertisers.
